Ben Humeriak!!!!

Ben is an educator and cartoonist from the Houston, TX area with a passion for writing and drawing stories about outsiders who find purpose and community-- or who fail by shying away from doing the work of personal growth!! Sounds like a perfect fit for an anthology called We Suck At Comics, right? We think his work fits particularly well with the theme of Coloring Outside The Lines. But don’t just take our word for it, why not take a sneak peek?

We saw Ben’s submission and knew it had to be part of We Suck At Comics. We always thing of ourselves as punk rock in comic book form. His story couldn’t be more on the nose for what we are trying to do here. Inclusive, a little odd and eye catching. Check. Check. And check. We love it!

A Brief History of Lambda Mu is a documentary about Lambda Mu, the legendary (and secretive) figure whose influence on the North American comics scene led to a drastically more diverse industry. Featuring interviews with pertinent comics figures such as Anna Wu and Gary Beeds, as well as on-the-ground participants such as John Bisque, Freema Tate, Daniel Greenleaf, and more, this six-page piece of journalism will cause you consider the effects of Mu's legendary storytelling and antics as deeply as you ponder the truth behind their never-revealed identity.

Real talk, though-- this is an alternate history comic that Ben wrote about a mysterious cartoonist as a tribute to interview comics a la Joe Sacco and an attempt to paint a picture of how great storytelling regardless of identity can elevate all of us.
